Global Warming

What is global warming :

Global warming refers to the long-term increase in Earth's average surface temperature due to the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The primary cause of global warming is the enhanced greenhouse effect, which is primarily driven by human activities, particularly the burning of fossil fuels (such as coal, oil, and natural gas) and deforestation.

When greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O, are released into the atmosphere, they trap heat from the sun, preventing it from escaping back into space. This leads to a gradual rise in global temperatures, disrupting Earth's climate patterns and resulting in various environmental and societal impacts.

The consequences of global warming are far-reaching and include:

Rising temperatures:

Average global temperatures have been increasing over the past century, leading to changes in weather patterns, heatwaves, and heat-related illnesses.

Melting ice and rising sea levels:

As temperatures rise, glaciers and ice caps melt, causing a rise in sea levels. This threatens coastal communities and low-lying areas, increasing the risk of flooding and erosion.

Extreme weather events:

Global warming contributes to more frequent and intense extreme weather events, such as hurricanes, droughts, floods, and wildfires. These events can have devastating impacts on ecosystems, infrastructure, and human lives.

Changes in ecosystems:

Rising temperatures disrupt ecosystems, leading to shifts in the distribution and behavior of plant and animal species. Some species may struggle to adapt or face extinction, affecting biodiversity and ecosystem stability.

Ocean acidification:

Increased carbon dioxide in the atmosphere also leads to higher absorption of CO2 by the oceans, resulting in ocean acidification. This acidification can harm marine organisms, such as coral reefs and shellfish, with potential cascading effects on marine food chains.

Addressing global warming requires a collective effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, transition to renewable energy sources, improve energy efficiency, conserve natural resources, and adopt sustainable practices. International agreements, such as the Paris Agreement, aim to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius to mitigate the impacts of climate change.

Types of global warming :-

Global warming refers to the overall increase in Earth's average surface temperature. It is not typically classified into different types. However, there are various factors and phenomena associated with global warming that can have specific impacts. Here are a few related terms that are often discussed in the context of global warming:

Greenhouse effect:

The greenhouse effect is a natural process where certain gases in the Earth's atmosphere trap heat from the sun, preventing it from escaping back into space. This process is essential for sustaining life on Earth, as it helps maintain a relatively stable temperature. However, human activities have increased the concentration of greenhouse gases, intensifying the greenhouse effect and leading to global warming.

Enhanced greenhouse effect:

The enhanced greenhouse effect refers to the increased warming effect resulting from human activities, primarily the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation. It has significantly contributed to the observed global warming over the past century.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions:

CO2 is the most significant greenhouse gas emitted by human activities. It is released primarily through the burning of fossil fuels for energy production, transportation, and industrial processes. Excessive CO2 emissions are a significant driver of global warming.

Methane emissions:

Methane (CH4) is another potent greenhouse gas. It is emitted from various sources, including livestock farming, agriculture (rice cultivation), fossil fuel extraction, and natural gas leaks. Methane has a higher warming potential than CO2, although its atmospheric concentration is lower.

Deforestation:

Deforestation, the clearing of forests for agriculture, logging, or urbanization, contributes to global warming. Forests act as carbon sinks, absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere. When forests are destroyed, the carbon stored in trees is released, adding to greenhouse gas concentrations.

Feedback loops:

Global warming can trigger feedback loops that further contribute to temperature increases. For example, as temperatures rise, ice and snow melt, reducing the Earth's reflectivity (albedo) and causing more sunlight to be absorbed, leading to additional warming. Similarly, as permafrost thaws, it releases methane, a potent greenhouse gas, which amplifies global warming.

While these terms describe various aspects and impacts of global warming, it is important to note that global warming itself is the overarching phenomenon resulting from the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and the subsequent rise in average global temperatures.

Advantages and disadvantages of global warming :-

Global warming is widely regarded as a detrimental phenomenon due to its adverse impacts on the environment, ecosystems, and human societies. However, it is important to note that there are no significant advantages of global warming from an overall perspective. Instead, there are some potential misconceptions or claims about certain localized benefits. Let's explore the perceived advantages and disadvantages:

Advantages (Perceived):

Longer growing seasons:

In some regions, a slight increase in temperature and longer frost-free periods could potentially extend the growing season for certain crops. However, this benefit is outweighed by the negative effects of global warming, such as increased heat stress, water scarcity, and the spread of pests and diseases.

Opening of new shipping routes:

As Arctic ice melts, new shipping routes may become accessible, potentially reducing travel distances and costs. However, this benefit comes at the expense of environmental consequences and risks associated with the exploitation of previously inaccessible regions.

Disadvantages:

Climate-related disasters:

Global warming leads to an increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, such as hurricanes, droughts, floods, and wildfires. These disasters cause loss of life, destruction of infrastructure, displacement of communities, and economic hardships.

Rising sea levels:

Melting glaciers and thermal expansion of seawater contribute to rising sea levels, posing a significant threat to coastal areas, small island nations, and low-lying regions. Flooding, erosion, saltwater intrusion into freshwater sources, and loss of habitats are among the consequences.

Ecosystem disruptions:

Global warming disrupts ecosystems by altering temperature and precipitation patterns. This affects biodiversity, leading to the extinction or migration of species, disruption of food chains, and the spread of invasive species. Coral bleaching, caused by warmer ocean temperatures, threatens the survival of coral reefs.

Health impacts:

The increase in temperature and changing climate patterns can have adverse effects on human health. Heatwaves, increased air pollution, changes in disease patterns, and the spread of vector-borne diseases can pose risks to human well-being and public health.

Water scarcity:

Global warming affects water availability by altering precipitation patterns and contributing to droughts. This can lead to water scarcity for agriculture, drinking water supplies, and sanitation, affecting food production and exacerbating socio-economic disparities.

Economic consequences:

The economic impacts of global warming are substantial. Losses due to extreme weather events, damage to infrastructure, increased healthcare costs, and disruptions in agriculture and fisheries can strain economies and hinder development efforts.

It is crucial to recognize that the perceived advantages of global warming are often short-sighted and localized, while the disadvantages have broad and long-lasting global consequences. Efforts to mitigate and adapt to global warming are essential for safeguarding the planet, ecosystems, and human well-being in the long term.

Global warming effect on environment :

Global warming has significant effects on the environment, leading to various changes and disruptions. Here are some key impacts of global warming on the environment:

Temperature increase:

Global warming results in a rise in average global temperatures. This increase in temperature affects ecosystems, weather patterns, and the distribution of species. It can lead to heatwaves, altered precipitation patterns, and changes in seasonal timing.

Melting ice and rising sea levels:

Rising temperatures cause the melting of glaciers, ice caps, and polar ice. This contributes to rising sea levels, which threaten coastal areas, low-lying regions, and small island nations. It leads to increased coastal erosion, loss of coastal habitats, and increased vulnerability to flooding during storms.

Ocean warming and acidification:

Global warming raises the temperature of the oceans, affecting marine ecosystems and biodiversity. It disrupts coral reefs, leading to coral bleaching and the loss of these vital habitats. Additionally, increased carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is absorbed by the oceans, leading to ocean acidification, which harms marine life, including shellfish and other organisms with calcium carbonate shells.

Changes in precipitation patterns:

Global warming alters precipitation patterns, leading to shifts in rainfall distribution. Some regions may experience increased rainfall and flooding, while others may face decreased rainfall and drought conditions. These changes impact freshwater availability, agriculture, and ecosystems.

Changes in ecosystems and biodiversity:

Global warming causes shifts in ecosystems and disrupts the balance of species. Some species may struggle to adapt to changing conditions, leading to reduced biodiversity and potential extinctions. It can also lead to changes in the timing of biological events, such as flowering and migration patterns.

Increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather events:

Global warming contributes to more frequent and severe extreme weather events, such as hurricanes, cyclones, droughts, floods, and wildfires. These events can cause significant damage to ecosystems, infrastructure, and human lives, leading to loss of biodiversity and increased risks to communities.

Loss of habitats and ecosystems:

Rising temperatures and changing environmental conditions can lead to the loss of habitats, such as forests, wetlands, and grasslands. Deforestation, driven in part by global warming, further exacerbates habitat loss, reducing biodiversity and ecosystem services.

Disruption of ecological interactions:

Global warming can disrupt the intricate relationships between species, such as predator-prey interactions and pollination. For example, changes in flowering patterns may impact the availability of nectar for pollinators, affecting plant reproduction and the survival of pollinators.

Addressing global warming and reducing greenhouse gas emissions is crucial for mitigating these environmental impacts.

Online journalism

What is online journalism?

Answer:

Online Journalism is simply doing Journalism for publishing online. However, the techniques used are significantly different.

For example :

when publishing online, one is not limited by space like you might be in print journalism, or by time like in broadcast journalism. The ability to hyperlink to other sites allows the journalist to leave out detailed (and non-critical) parts of the story and simply allow the reader to go to the site for that information - if they desire

Characteristics of online journalism:

Digital journalism, also known as online journalism, is a contemporary form of journalism where editorial content is distributed via the Internet, as opposed to publishing via print or broadcast. What constitutes digital journalism is debated by scholars; however, the primary product of journalism, which is news and features on current affairs, is presented solely or in combination as text, audio, video, or some interactive forms like scrollytelling stories or newsgames, and disseminated through digital media technology.

:Firstly we disscussed about the word  Media.

WHAT IS MEDIA?

The term media discribed from the word medium which means the way of conveying message or the medium which is used to convey message from sender to reciver.

Media is the plural form of medium.

:Now we disscussed about the term Social media.

Social Media:

Social media is the type of media in which many websites and apps are include by which we can participate in social networking ,we can share our ideas, thoughts, experiences etc

There are many applications which are include in social media some of which are following:

1- Whatsapp

2-Facebook

3-Twitter

4-Instagram

5-Netflix

6-Youtube

7-Pintrest

etc

Advantages:

Some of its advantages include immediacy,  the use of multimedia element, interactivity
Ultimated space and more.

Futures of journalism:

Five Future Challenges for Journalism:

1:Personalized News Feeds

2:Declining Circulation

3: 24-Hour News Cycle

4:Political Advocacy

5:Fake News

The journalism industry is rapidly changing, and journalism jobs could be affected by the changes coming to newspapers and online news outlets in the future. From local network affiliates to the New York Times, the pressure to attract paying customers has created serious challenges for journalists trying to cover stories objectively and truthfully. The challenge for news reporters and editors is to provide accurate coverage as quickly as possible without publishing false or biased information. As the news readership becomes overtly politicized, newspapers and networks have little choice but to change with the times at the expense of their credibility.
